CANADA Work Permit
The process of obtaining a Canadian work permit from India involves several steps, including determining your eligibility, securing a job offer, and applying for the permit. Here’s a detailed guide to help you through the process:
- Determine Eligibility
Before starting your application, ensure you meet the eligibility criteria for a Canadian work permit. These criteria include:
- Proof that you will leave Canada when your work permit expires.
- Sufficient financial resources to support yourself and your family during your stay in Canada.
- No criminal record (you may need to provide a police clearance certificate).
- Good health (you may need to undergo a medical exam).
- No plan to work for an employer listed as ineligible.
- No intention to work in certain restricted jobs, such as those involving striptease, erotic dance, escort services, or erotic massages.
- Secure a Job Offer and Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)
In most cases, you need a job offer from a Canadian employer. The employer must usually obtain a Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) from Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC).
- Job Offer: Obtain a written job offer from a Canadian employer.
- LMIA: The employer must apply for an LMIA, demonstrating that hiring you will not negatively affect the Canadian labor market. Some jobs are LMIA-exempt, such as those under international agreements or those providing significant benefits to Canada.
- Gather Required Documents
Prepare all necessary documents for your application. These typically include:
- Valid passport
- Copy of your job offer letter
- LMIA (if applicable)
- Proof of your qualifications and work experience
- Evidence of sufficient funds to support yourself and your family in Canada
- Medical examination results (if applicable)
- Police clearance certificate
- Family information (if applicable)

You can apply online or on paper. Online applications are generally faster and more efficient.

You will receive a decision on your application. If approved, you will get a Port of Entry (POE) Letter of Introduction and a temporary resident visa (if required).
- Travel to Canada
- Present Documents: Upon arrival in Canada, present your POE Letter of Introduction and other required documents to the border services officer.
